So, is it hard to make $500 a month blogging? It is moderately difficult to make $500 a month by blogging. Anyone who can read and write can do it. As with any business, many people fail. Learning the right way to do it and also staying motivated and on track are the parts that make it hard.

What parts of making a blog that makes $500 a month is hard?

The difficult parts are:

  1. Learning what to do
  2. Staying motivated – finishing it

So, I’ll give you my experience and expertise in this area.

1. Learning what to do

Knowing how to create it takes a bit of time. The different things you will need to learn are:

  • Learning and then setting up and installing WordPress
  • How to make money with your blog articles
  • Choosing the right topic for your website
  • Choosing the right article topics

Learning and then setting up and installing WordPress

This is a challenging part for almost everyone. WordPress is a way of making a website that is easier than custom coding it from scratch. Making a website, which is called web development, is fairly new. Similar to the internet, it has only been around for the last 20 to 30 years. The technology is still very new.

When websites first started, all of them had to be created by writing in programming code. But a group of web designers created a drag and drop interface where a person who does not know how to write code can create a website.

WordPress is the most popular platform for both business websites and blogs. In recent years there have been many different ones that have sprung up. Although most business owners do very little on WordPress, almost all web design companies make websites for their clients in WordPress. That is because it allows them to make changes themselves by logging in.

When learning it for yourself for the first time, it is very confusing. However, much like any skill with some practice, you’ll figure out how it all works, especially when you have a step by step guide. There are many available online for free on Youtube.

Setting up a WordPress website on your hosting account is very easy. For a beginner, do not attempt to set up a WordPress website on your computer. What programmers call a ‘local machine.’ See how confusing it’s getting already. This is why learning to use WordPress and working with a theme is one of the hardest parts about making $500 a month blogging.

It’s like riding a bike. If you learned it well, you’ll never forget. Luckily if you can’t figure out how to do something, you can easily type your question into Google.

Because of how long it has been around and how popular it is, you can find the answer to any question you can think of. However, implementing the answer you find can be quite hard and frustrating. Eventually, you’ll get there, and anyone can do it with enough perseverance.

Now that you’ve learned how to establish your WordPress site or hired somebody to set it up for you, how do you attract traffic to make money? Keep reading.

How to make money with your blog articles

Writing blog articles is similar to any writing you would have done in school, high school, and even University. There are a few strategies on how to monetize your blog articles so that they make money. They are:

  • Passive display ads. Displaying ads from Google Adsense or another paid ad provider. These made about $4 to $10 per 1000 readers of your article.
  • Promoting your products. Talking about your products within the article and telling them they can buy it by going to another page on your website where they can put in their credit card information.
  • Promoting other people’s products. This is the same as promoting your own products. But, you don’t create or buy and sell the product yourself. You send them to a different company that handles all the delivery and customer support.

When you write your articles, you need to think of them from a sales perspective. Reading some books on sales, advertising, and copywriting will help you when writing your blog articles.

So, it would be best if you wrote your articles in a way that answers the topic your readers were looking to get help with. Also, give them recommendations of other topics they may have issues with and some products that will help them along the way.

Although learning to write the articles isn’t hard, practicing and getting better happens naturally. Truthfully, initially, you may feel like it is hard.

Choosing the right topic for your website

It can be quite hard to decide what topic you want to create your blog about. Often, new people that start a blog – I definitely did this – rush in and create a few different blogs on all sorts of different topics.

But, to make a successful blog that makes $500 a month and more, you should narrow down what your website is about to a specific niche or industry. I remember when I first started my blog, I read you should choose a niche. I was like, what is a ‘niche’, you mean like a niche in Biology. But, a niche has a similar or the same meaning to an industry. Examples of niches are:

  • Insurance
  • Horseback riding
  • Archery
  • Surfing
  • Knitting

Then there are sub-niches within them, such as car insurance, home insurance, contents insurance, or beach surfing, surfing on coral. You get the picture. The issue is you can get as precise or wide as you’d like. The important thing to do is have one niche for your website and choose the right topics for your blogs.

Choosing the right topic is best explained in more in-depth courses about blogging. Although you can guess what niche will work, it is best to get help from experts who have made multiple websites. For this reason, I thoroughly recommend researching courses online via youtube or google search. This is because they will better explain what a good niche looks like and how to do your due diligence. However, it’s beyond the scope of this article to explain it thoroughly here.

Choosing the right topics for the articles on your blog

There are a few different ways to market your blog articles. The primary way that most people love is to write articles that will show up on the first page of Google.com. The other way is to write the articles and then do other marketing to attract readers.

In my opinion, doing both works best. Yet, you can choose to do only one of these methods to save time.

1. Writing articles to get on the first page of Google

To create a blog that makes $500 a month, choosing article topics that will make it to the first page works amazingly. When this happens, your articles will show up when people are looking for an answer on Google.

Before, I didn’t know how it all worked, blogging, and creating websites that generated passive income. If you create a blog article on a topic that is well researched, given enough time, Google will recognize that users like your content. It will then place your article on the first page.

You need to choose topics that make sense for your blog. There are two schools of thought about what topics to write about. I have seen some people recommend creating articles on any topic. Then once you are getting a good amount of visitors, to experiment with different products.

Another method I have seen is to write only those articles that make sense for particular products. For example, suppose you have a website about archery, and you want to sell archery products. In that case, you should choose topics where it is natural to talk about your archery products.

Think about the difference between an article about “places to go to do archery in Wyoming” versus an article about “the different types of archery bows.” The first article will talk about where to go to practice in Wyoming. Thus, offering products in it might be a bit spammy. This will trigger fewer sales of products. In the second article, mentioning products will sound more natural. You can write about the different types of bows there are, also include what equipment you use, and what you recommend. This will make it more convincing to the readers about what awesome equipment you use that they can buy. The article will read easy and natural to about the bows you sell and what you recommend.

So, when choosing your topics, you should aim for those that make it easy to sell what you are selling. Or, you can go the first method which works equally as well and write about any topics in your niche, and then experiment with different products.

2. Writing articles and then doing other methods to market them

You can also market your articles by posting them on your social media accounts such as on your Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin. There are nearly infinite social media platforms to choose from.

The key thing, though, is to build up a following. When you are putting out really good content that people love to read, they will come back for more. This will keep your readers entertained, and they will also tell their friends about it. Another way is to interact authentically on the platform.

This is where you look at other people’s content and make comments, and comments on other people’s comments, and generally, be involved. When you do this, people will naturally click on your profile and see what you’re all about. And if your content is what they are looking for, they will follow you and your content.

When this happens, it will begin to grow, and your website will begin to start earning income. The more content you put out and the more interacting you do, the more people will interact with your website and buy your products and make money from Adsense. There is nothing more effective than getting your website up to $500 a month and beyond.

2. Staying motivated and finishing it

I’m not sure if this is true of all people. But, it certainly seems to be the consensus in the start-up business world, and that is staying motivated and finishing a project. Many people call it shiny object syndrome.

Where most people who begin one business and then realize there is more they need to learn to finish the first business. But, in learning the new information they need to know, they get sidetracked starting a new business. And eventually, they are left with a trail of 2 to 3 and sometimes more incomplete projects.

When this happens, instead of one complete website or business, you have multiple that don’t earn anything. It is a common trap that many entrepreneurs fall into, and one I myself did. It almost seems like it’s a right of passage because every experienced business owner talks about doing this.

So, to stay motivated and finish the blog you are working on and get it to $500 a month should be a top priority for you. You can learn everything else that you need to learn. But, make sure not to get sidetracked.

Also, knowing how much time it will take to get it to $500 a month can help motivate you. In a previous article I wrote, I explained How to make $500 day with Google Adsense link.

In it, I broke down how long it takes to create a piece of blog content. I also gave an average for how much each blog article would potentially make. Definitely give it a read.

Life generally gets in the way, especially when you have lots of hobbies, a full-time job, and children. So, setting aside some time each day will really help you. For example, writing and working on your blog for 2 hours every morning before doing anything else.

Frequently as the day goes on, we can become overwhelmed with everything else there is to do. Checking Facebook, doing the laundry, cooking food, picking up the kids. The list seems endless. So, it makes sense to set a concrete time each day to work on it, and then once it’s done, enter back into the stream of other activities you do throughout the day.

Conclusion

There are two main parts of creating a blog that makes $500 a month: learning what to do and staying motivated. Learning what to do involves learning how to set up your website in WordPress. Finding and deciding on a topic to write about. Researching article topics you want to write about, and writing those topics in a way that they will make you money.

To stay motivated, you want to avoid starting additional blogs and stick with one. It also a good idea to set aside some time each day to work on it before you get sidetracked.
