And so we felt it prudent to take a look at all the current available classified sites and select the best 30 or more we could find.  We checked each one and brought what we found to give you our take on the best Craigslist alternatives.

1. AdlandPro

Adland Pro is a relatively straightforward classified listing site, but in testing, we found that some of the elements appear broken. For example, we were in the country region and selected the world. A blank pop-up appeared, blocking the screen, and the browser tab had to be closed.

This site does not appear to have a secure connection, either. 

Assuming the site fixes their apparent errors, the appearance is straightforward, and this platform might be able to resurrect itself from the broken site it appeared to be at the time of writing.

2. Adhoards

This classified ad site came up fast and had an elegant and simple design. In testing, we found that this site does not have a lot of ads. It can be great if you are the only one advertising for something in a particular area. However, it can also mean that there isn’t much traffic going to the site, so ads might stay there for a while before someone sees them.

The site is difficult to pass off due to its attractive design. Given some time to gain more of the market, the Adhoards site might be worth keeping an eye on for the future.

3. Adpost

Adpost.com is reasonably easy to use platform for classified ads of all sorts. Posting a basic ad is free; the sign up is relatively simple, and the site design is nice enough. The downside seems to be the limitation of countries. Although many countries with large online populations are represented, the homepage only shows 12 countries. However, the site also boasts 30 million views a month, so there is potential with this classified ads platform.

4. Ads Globe

The adsglobe site is clean and easy to navigate. The homepage comes across like a colorful forum from the early 2000s but is easy to use. Sign up is a snap, and basic ads are free to post.

The site offers a marketplace, a business center, a job center, and a community corner tab. The classifieds allowed is general, from selling a product or service to other more obscure classified ad posts, including missing persons and astronomy.

The only downside to this site is the older styling. That and a lack of abundance of ads makes this another of the good, newer sites that have a long way to go to become one of our choices for a Craigslist alternative.

5. Bookoo

The entire concept of Bookoo is to bring the feel of a local garage sale to the internet. It’s a platform designed for selling used products. This service is a giant message board for selling your used goods.

One of the downsides to Bookoo is the lack of countries in which the service operates. The USA’s website is the focus with other countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Japan, Korea, Spain, Portugal, and Kuwait, also represented. However, many cities noted are US military installations. 

If you are an American, this site is an excellent resource for buying and selling used products. You might want to keep looking for a more global-oriented place for the rest of the world.

6. ClassifiedAds

The website ClassifiedAds.com is true to the nature of the classified ad. The homepage is a forum-like page with no advertisements (it’s a relief to see no ads on a page without using ad blockers). The site focus is towards the usual sore of classified ad categories being products, rental properties, jobs, personals, and more. 

Ads are easy to post and free with no separate sign up requirements; they just get you right to the form to make your ad. 

The site is very efficient and easy to use. Although not the most visually appealing, this site does the job of being a standard free classified ads board.

7. Classifieds Factor

The Classifieds Factor website is another smaller general classified ads board. Although the site appears to set up for easy use at first glance, the large screen blocking advertisements are a testament to the site owners’ true intentions.

The intent of the site was obvious when we tested to see how many ads were present. Many categories have no ads at all. The glaringly ridiculous size and amount of advertisements on the page show that many people are just not interested in posting on such a spammy platform.

8. eBay

One of the great ‘beasts of online markets’ is eBay. Everyone knows of and has been to this site at least at some point or another.

eBay does one thing very well, and that is to drive traffic. The site gets a ludicrous amount of traffic every day, so there’s never a fear that someone won’t see your ad.

The platform focus is a market place, not a classified ads site, so this one is a little different from many on our list, but still very much worth mentioning.

Posting ads are free for a basic ad, but eBay gets you in the commission they charge on every item sold. Your ad might be free, but eBay is going to get a cut of your sale to make up for it.

Because of the commission issue as well as the semi-confusing sign-up process, a lot of people have turned away from eBay in search of better platforms. Although the site still commands a large amount of traffic. 

9. Facebook Marketplace

The Facebook Marketplace is easy to use product buy and sell site. Due to Facebook’s reach of over 60% of internet users, it doesn’t surprise to know that Facebook Marketplace is one of the largest “buy and sell” markets on the web.

Free to post ads and easy to use, the Facebook marketplace only has the drawback of being connected to your account. Some who would rather sell in anonymity are not fans of this fact. However, the rest of us with nothing to hide have little concern over this connection.

10. FinderMaster

FinderMaster is easy to use a general-purpose classified board website. The main page opens up to a map where you can select your location. Below this is an easy to use a simple table showing categories.

The ads are easy to post, but they get reviewed, so there is no guarantee that your ad will go live right away.

We tried posting an add to this site and found that the review process can be quite tedious. There was a delay of several days before our ad was reviewed. So, if you choose to use FinderMaster, just go in with the right amount of patience, and hopefully, all will be faster for you than when we tried to test the site.

11. Free Ads Time

Free Ads Time a true to form classified ads website. The appearance is similar to a forum, and there are very few ads that we were able to find in testing. This site boasts that posting a product for sale is a new feature implying a very young site.

Due to the localized search settings that run as soon as you visit, if there are no ads in your area, you may find you are spending a lot of time searching for an ad. This site might work well if it were able to get some people on it.

12. Gazelle

Gazelle is another tech-based buy and sell platform geared to technology like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

The Gazelle system is a unique one. First, the platform will buy your old tech from you. But, there are a few catches. The tech must be of a brand and model offered for sale on the Gazelle website. Next, it must be in good condition. The company has representatives who will go through a series of questions with you to determine the status of the tech you want to sell.

After the review, Gazelle will make you an offer on the tech. If you accept, you can ship the tech to Gazelle, who will pay the shipping.

After Gazelle has inspected the product, if it agrees with what they offer, they will pay you for the used tech. If not, they will ship it back to you.

It is a bit of a process, but it’s buying your tech to resell it after they refurbish it. As long as it’s in good working order, this might be a good option if one needs to sell an old apple device or other items that Gazelle shows on their website.

13. Geebo

Geebo is a relatively established, community-oriented classified platform. It has a decent amount of ads on it, but it is only accessible for United States locations, making it slightly annoying for anyone visiting the site from another country.

The big focus on the main Geebo homepage is in Employment. Although the site offers products to buy and sell, vehicles, rentals, services, and real estate, the Employment card takes center stage.

14. Gigantic List

The website GiganticList.com offers a fresh and global approach to presenting ads. The basic ad is free and relatively straight forward to setup. The platform displays ads with prices in the poster’s currency, which gives it a global village kind of feel to the site.

Like many other classified ads sites, Gigantic List offers both buy and sell and vehicles, training, real estate, services, jobs, and more.

15. Global Free Classified Ads

A simple and yet busy sort of site is the Global free classified ads .com website. The title is about as long as the site is cluttered. Although the website appears to have a decent amount of ads, there is a lot of small text making it not the easiest on the eyes. 

Not a bad site for classified ads of all sorts, the Global Free Classified Ads website is only missing a more attractive design and shorter name.

16. Globified

Another new classified ads website, Globified has a straightforward design allowing it to load quite fast. It is a nice feature. However, there were no ads we could find on the random searches we tested on the platform.

Globified is another small, newer classified site. Once it gets more classified ads, it might be worth looking at. But, at this time, with no ads showing, there is concern whether this site will stand the test of time. Time will tell.

17. Gumtree

Gumtree is a well laid out site for selling products, jobs, services, and more. The presentation makes it feel like a comfortable place to make a nice advertisement. However, once you dig a little deeper into the categories, you find out this site is only for the United Kingdom. 

18. Hoobly

Hoobly stands out as not standing out. It is a clean and simple classified board with a good amount of starter ads on the site. One of the newer generations of classified ads sites, Hoobly, could do well in the future, given a larger amount of ads. But at least at Hoobly, the shelves aren’t barren, like on some other sites struggling to find people to make ads.

The majority of the ads on Hoobly are from only three countries, showing the platform’s youth. However, with the easy to follow layout, as long as one can get past the giant advertisement on every page, Hoobly stands to be a decent classified site should it gain some further momentum.

19. Kijiji

Kijiji has grown up with the times and has updated its massive website to include pictures. It’s a welcome change to the site, which used to look like a cluttered forum page. Due to Kijiji’s success, there are all kinds of ads to browse for products, real estate, jobs, services, and the other usual classified ads topics and categories.

Some of the issues that have arisen with Kijiji have to do with security when meeting individuals to sell your products. There have been cases where people who met strangers to sell a vehicle or other item were robbed or even worse.

Thus, Kijiji has garnered a lot of infamous press that the platform perhaps does not deserve. With that being said, anytime you use a platform where there is the potential to meet strangers, do so using caution.

20. Kugli

Kugli boasts it is one of the fastest-growing free classified ads platforms on the internet. Although it does seem to have a good amount of ads, there are many spammy advertising ads crammed in that dilute the results. And when you dig deeper into the results, you see there aren’t many classified ads at all as they show a global pool of ads. Three ads for an entire category, worldwide, do not seem to fit with the claim that this site is the fastest growing. 

21. Locanto

Locanto is a USA centric classified ads site. The focus is entirely on a United States market, and there is a decent amount of ads for a smaller classified site.

The design of Locanto is easy to follow, making it easy to use. A nice feature is that they show the number of ads they have in each topic heading, so you know right away if there’s enough to make looking worthwhile.

Locanto seems like a nice layout, looks clean, and easy to use; this is a classified site to keep an eye on.

22. Letgo

This site is another of the newer generation of classified ad sites. The site is relatively easy to navigate but failed our first test. This site only appears to have ads from Canada at this time. Although the site allowed us to search in United States locations, there were no ads in the locations for the items we randomly searched for to test the site.

This site has a catchy title, and if they can expand into the US market, they might be a site worth watching.

23. Mercari

Mercari is a colorful and intuitive selling platform. Along with a companion app, this site allows one to sell nearly anything on the platform. It boasts that you never need to meet the buyer and that it goes as far as sending the buyer shipping labels.

The ads are free to place, but like eBay, there is a commission structure in place. Mercari claims a 10% fee of your selling price as payment for using their platform. Be prepared to mark anything up 10% if you want to get the amount you intended.

24. Offerup

The OfferUp product sales website and app claim to be easy to use and easy to sell, communicate with buyers, and more. The site has a slightly annoying infinite scroll feature, so forget trying to ever get to the bottom bar of the page to find the terms, you’ll need to use the top menu only for that.

The site claims to be a new and flashy marketplace focused on the mobile app. However, with the site showing links to the Google Plus platform (shut down April 2nd, 2019) at the time of writing (June 29th, 2020), one must ask just how updated this sales platform is.

25. Oodle

The Oodle marketplace is another of the simple and old forum style classified sites. Serving only seven countries at the time of writing this article, the Oodle platform has a decent amount of existing classified ads. The majority of the ads we looked at were in the United States, but the numbers appeared fairly consistent.

26. Penny Saver USA

Penny Saver is another United States oriented classified site hosting a variety of categories from products to pets to real estate and more. The site has a playful feel with decent images that make the site feel more like a blog post than a sales platform.

The design is easy to follow, and the feel is a nice change from the traditional cluttered forum style of classified ad websites.

27. Recycler

Recycler is one of those sites that sits halfway in between styles like it hasn’t quite made up its mind. The site is focused on providing classifieds ad services to the United States and is not available to other countries.

This classified ad website has the usual categories and a decent amount of ads to browse. So if you are in the United States, this is one of the better choices for classified ads.

28. Sales Spider

At first glance, this website appears to be a great place to make a classified ad. The site boasts over 28,000 classifieds. Yet when we tested the site, the same ads for a blender, temple lamp, side table, toaster, and more repeatedly appeared. It wouldn’t be bad except we were searching in automotive, beauty, and business services.

29. Sheepbuy

Naturally, Sheepbuy is our favorite classified sales platform. With product focus, it makes it easy to find great products. And it’s clean layout shows nice-sized images compared with so many other classified sites.

The sales platform is free to sell up to three items on the basic tier. The next tier up is only a few dollars and lets you sell a lot more items. The great thing about this classified sales platform is that there are no hidden fees and zero commissions. There’s never a fear that you’ll lose half your sale to the website hosting your classified ad.

Ads are free to make to sell one’s tech items. There is a trust rating for sellers, so a first-time seller may experience a bit of a delay in the first sale until they start to become trusted.

The only fees are a small amount that Swappa adds to the price.

It is a great site for tech, but most only show that they are available in the United States. It is a downside if you live in any country other than the US and find something you like on the site.

31. USA Today Classifieds

The only ‘expensive’ paid classifieds ads platform on our list is the well-known USA TODAY Classifieds. These classified ads are reminiscent of the ads one might find in a newspaper, and it wouldn’t be a coincidence. If paying for advertising is what one is looking for, then this is the right site.

32. Varagesale

Varagesale is a site that tries to blend classified product sales ads with a fashion-based sense of sales.

One opening the homepage, the site senses your location and starts on the desktop with a grid of recommended products near your location. Some of the items seem a little odd to be for sale on a used product platform, but what can we expect from a classified ad?

33. Wall Classifieds

Wall Classifieds is a newer classifieds site with a few ads on it already. The site is attempting a responsive design with advertisements coming up front and center and overpowering the site’s user experience. Navigating past the ads to the actual site has several icons showing the major categories, being the typical ones found on a classified ads platform.

Nothing stands out about this classified ads site except the overpowering advertisements which detract from the experience. Remember, if you want a potential buyer to find your product, they will have to navigate past the ads.

A Brief Note On Seller and Buyer Safety

When you use any classified platform, there is the potential for bad people to try to take advantage. If you are selling a product or a service or buying a product or service, make sure you are doing so safely.

For example, when buying or selling a product, try to only sell on platforms that allow you to ship the product after payment without meeting the buyer. It ensures both parties are safe and eliminates the need to meet a stranger in person.
